Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Successful applicants usually meet or exceed the following admission requirements for the masters and doctoral degree programs:
- Official transcripts showing a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or higher for all undergraduate and graduate academic work
- Official scores on the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) taken within the last five years. Tests taken before August 1, 2011, should have a combined verbal and quantitative score of 1100. Tests taken after August 1, 2011, should have a combined verbal and quantitative score of 300
- International students from non-English-speaking countries must submit results from one of the following standardized language tests: Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 575 (paper-based) or 88 (Internet-based); International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum score of 7.0
- A statement of purpose prepared by the student
- Recommendations from at least three teachers from whom courses have been taken
- Other evidence that may be helpful in reaching a decision. Although an undergraduate major in political science is not a prerequisite for admission, the committee takes into consideration previous academic work in political science
