Program Overview

This programme is designed to offer a focused learning and training experience in Dietetics. The course utilises the B.Sc. (Hons.) Applied Food and Nutritional Sciences or an equivalent qualification as the basis for this Postgraduate Diploma. This intensive programme will give you the training and skills base needed to practice safely and with proficiency. The programme will provide you with the skill-set which will be developed gradually throughout the one-year full-time course. The course will rely heavily on guided experiential learning in both hospital and community settings. The ultimate aim is to provide pre-registration education and training to the development of professional dietetic identity, while underpinning lifelong learning that will ensure the development, continuation and evolution of standards of excellence in dietetic practice. The programme of studies extends over one year of full-time studies. Lectures and clinical placements are held during the day. Year 1 Year (This/these unit/s start/s in Semester 1 and continue/s in Semester 2) Compulsory Units (All students must register for this/these unit/s) FEH5013 Advanced Dietetic Practice 5 ECTS FEH5019 Fundamental Studies in Nutrition and Dietetics 5 ECTS Semester 1 Compulsory Units (All students must register for this/these unit/s) FEH5011 Core Principles of Dietetics Practice 5 ECTS FEH5012 Professional Studies - Communication and Ethical Issues 5 ECTS FEH5014 Dietetic Placement 1 8 ECTS Semester 2 and Summer Period FEH5017 * Dietetic Placement 4 8 ECTS Semester 2 Compulsory Units (All students must register for this/these unit/s) FEH5015 Dietetic Placement 2 8 ECTS FEH5016 Dietetic Placement 3 8 ECTS Summer Period Compulsory Units (All students must register for this/these unit/s) FEH5018 Dietetic Placement 5 8 ECTS This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Science under the auspices of the Faculty of Health Sciences. In addition to the prescribed 60 ECTS credits for the year, International/non-Maltese students can apply to the Board to register for the extra study-unit listed hereunder. Extra study-units cannot substitute compulsory, elective or optional study-units that form part of the official Senate-approved programme of studies, and do not count towards the Year Average Mark or towards the Final Weighted Average Mark. Both study-units are offered subject to availability and time-table constraints. Admission Requirements

Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications a Bachelor's degree obtained with at least Second Class Honours in an area of study deemed suitable by the Board or a degree from this or another university which the Board considers as comparable to the degree indicated in paragraph (a). Applicants may be required to provide evidence of being in possession of the licence to practice in the register of the profession concerned, as kept by the relevant regulatory council. Applicants may be required to provide evidence of work experience following registration with the relevant regulatory council in the proposed area of study or area of specialisation, if applicable. The minimum number of years of experience required shall be indicated at the time of the call for applications. Notes and any other requirements The maximum number of students that can be admitted to the course is 5 students. The selection criteria is available here . During the first year of the Course, accepted students may be required to undergo an occupational health assessment so as to ascertain that they are fit for the duties related to their proposed studies. Students who do not fulfil this requirement may be barred from progressing with their studies.
