Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Admissions Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4-point (4.0 – A) scale.
  • Competitive students in the School of Allied Health Sciences normally score a 153 on verbal and a 144 on quantitative section, with a 3.5 on the analytical section of the Graduate Record Examination.
  • Completed application by published deadlines.
  • Transcripts with evidence of successful completion of all prerequisites.
  • Letters from three individuals who can attest to the applicant’s qualifications. Competitive applicants have at least one of the letters authored by an O&P clinician attesting to the applicant\'s fitness to enter professional graduate school.

Foreign Applicants

We welcome foreign applicants or U.S. applicants with foreign coursework. However, if foreign coursework is submitted, applicants must submit the foreign transcript for translation (if applicable) and evaluation by an approved educational credential evaluation service as listed in the OPCAS system. These translated and evaluated transcripts are used to verify satisfactory completion of academic pre-requisites.
Additionally, applicants are required to submit current TOEFL scores in cases where English is not the native language. Completed evaluations and TOEFL scores should be sent directly to Baylor College of Medicine’s MSOP program offices.

Interviews
Following the receipt of all documents, competitive applicants will be invited to participate in interviews conducted during the month of February on the Baylor College of Medicine campus. Notification of acceptance following interviews is expected to be made within one week after interviews are conducted. Each interviewed applicant will be evaluated for admission by an interdisciplinary Allied Health Admissions Committee.
The committee ranks the applicants for admission to the program in order of priority. Each applicant offered a position in the first-year class must acknowledge acceptance within the time prescribed in the acceptance letter, generally within two weeks. A non-refundable deposit of $350.00 must accompany the written acknowledgement of acceptance.
