Academic Requirements
Criteria for consideration for the MA in Psychology
BA or B.Sc. in psychology, with an academic standing of B+ or better, or a successfully completed qualifying year in psychology. Those with an academic background other than psychology will have their qualifications examined and may be required to complete additional course work or a qualifying year. Academic references, a personal statement of interests, a vulnerable sector criminal background check at your local police department, and identification of potential research supervisors are required. The general regulations of the School of graduate studies will apply unless otherwise stated. Please note that the application deadline for September admission is February 1st.
The graduate Psychology program in Applied Psychology with a clinical emphasis is designed to prepare students for work in schools, mental health, or other applied settings or to pursue Ph.D.-level studies. In addition to course work and research, students must complete a practicum. Graduates are eligible to pursue registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (other conditions may apply). The Experimental field provides students with research training in Psychological Science. Graduates may pursue further Ph.D.-level studies, teach at the community college level, or seek employment in a range of settings.
In addition to providing official university transcripts, applicants must submit two reference letters, which both of them must be from full-time university psychology faculty. You must also provide a letter which explains why you wish to be accepted to this program, what strengths you bring to the program, and what you expect from the program. You must also submit a completed questionnaire for either the Applied or Experimental stream (see #5 below). All applicants should state their research interests and identify possible research supervisors. A shortlist of applicants in the Experimental field will be required to attend an interview to discuss their rsearch plans and experience.
For Applied-field candidates, a shortlist of applicants will be required to attend an interview to discuss their applied experience. Only students with some applied experience will be admitted to the Applied field of the program.

An official transcript of all university studies completed (in separate sealed envelopes). An official transcript is an original or notarized copy. Photocopies or faxed documents are unacceptable. Graduates of Laurentian University are not required to submit a transcript from Laurentian University.
Only those students with an average of at least 75% will be considered for admission.
Two Appraisal Forms from referees who are familiar with your work (in separate, sealed envelopes). Both of them must be academic referees.
A letter containing a statement of your research interests.

Language Requirements
For admission to a degree program, a student must meet one of the language requirements listed below in addition to the academic requirements:
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (minimum score: 230 computer-based, 570 paper-based, 88 Internet-based)
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS - Academic)(minimum score: 6.5)
- Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) (minimum score: 85)
- Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) Assessment Test (minimum score: 70, with 60 in writing proficiency)
- Cambridge English Proficiency (minimum result: C)
- Pearson Test of Academic English (PTE) (minimum score: 60)
- Three years of full time senior-level studies in an English-language secondary school or post-secondary institution (official documents required) (evaluated on an individual basis; at the Admissions Committee\'s discretion)
- Laurentian EAP Level 3 exam with a score of 70% or higher
