Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Upper Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

See further details on How to Apply.Candidates for the MA should normally have, or be expected to obtain, a good honours degree (2:1 or higher) or its equivalent in an appropriate subject at undergraduate level.
Graduate Students with English as a second languageIf English is not your first language, we do expect you to be able to demonstrate a high level of proficiency. Our required IELTS language qualification score is 7.0. Applications with an IELTS score of 6.5 will be considered if the candidate\'s application is otherwise impressive. In these cases attendance at the 4-week pre-sessional English Language Training course at York is required. Such admissions have to be approved by the Chair of the Graduate School Board.English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
