Course Structure
- [\'The programme comprises compulsory core modules as well as elective courses.\', \'The compulsory modules include an introductory Theory and Methods Module that consists of the two joint blended e-learning courses "Democracy in Theory and Practice" and "Theory and Methods of History and Social Sciences" which are attended by students of each participating university at the same time in the first semester. Within this module students obtain advanced methodological and theoretical knowledge and research skills.\', \'In the second and third semesters, students choose two out of four Thematic Modules in Siegen and/or abroad that reflect the focus areas at the three participating universities: TM 1 and TM 2 Democratisation, Political Cultures and Media I and II (second and third semesters in Siegen), TM 4 Democratisation and Welfare (second semester in Uppsala), and TM 3 Democratisation and Globalisation (third semester in Coimbra).\', \'The choice of the two Thematic Modules depends on where and if students choose to spend a semester abroad. Students who decide against a study abroad semester attend the two Thematic Modules I and II in Siegen.\', "The compulsory part of the study programme is completed by the Thesis Module consisting of Thesis Forums and tutorials that provide an opportunity for academic exchange during the first three semesters as well as the Master\'s thesis and the Master\'s thesis presentation in the fourth semester.", \'Furthermore, students can choose between various optional elements, including transferable skills and language courses, additional optional seminars and internships.\', \'Students are expected to gain an average of 30 credit points per semester and 120 credit points over the entire programme.\']
Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
An above average first academic degree (Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent) in history, political science, sociology or in a related field of study with a final grade of at least "good" (local grade 2,3).
A very good command of English (equivalent to Level C1 of the CEFR) documented by internationally recognised test certificates (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge certificate). In some cases students can be exempted from submitting a formal test certificate, e.g. when students have obtained a BA degree from a university where the language of instruction was English.
