Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. Module 1: Provides an introduction to the current international system from a historical, conceptual and leadership perspective.
  2. Module 2; Focuses on the evolving role of traditional and emerging international security leaders, in addition to conflict management and transnational security challenges.
  3. Module 3: Allows participants to explore security challenges and actors in multiple regions including sub-Saharan
  4. Africa; the Middle East and North Africa; Latin America, and developments in the Asia-Pacific.
  5. Module 4: Provides a series of conceptual lectures to complement and reinforce, through a theoretical approach, the more policy-orientated approach of the first three Modules.
  6. Module 5: Allows participants to develop their research and analytical capacity through a 10’000-12’000 word thesis.

Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

If you wish to apply for a Master\'s program, the completed application for admission to Master\'s programs, along with all required documentation, is required, except for those applying to the following faculties/institutes: Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI), Global Studies Institute (GSI), and Graduate Institute (IHEID).

This also includes an application to the FPSE Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) degree program, and for specialization certificates at the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Protestant Theology.

Application for admission to Master\'s programs and all accompanying documentation will only be considered when submitted in association with an application for enrollment. The two applications will be decided upon separately. The application for admission to a Master\'s program, processed at the faculty or institute level, is subordinate to the decision of the Admissions Office regarding enrollment eligibility.
