Academic Requirements

Master study programme Social Informatics is open to:
  • Graduates who have completed first level study programme from the following study disciplines: social sciences, journalism and information, business and administrative studies, teacher training and pedagogical disciplines, mathematics and statistics, computer science, humanities, law, technical sciences, production technology, architecture and construction, medicine, social work and environmental protection, and have gathered 240 ECTS; they can enrol in postgraduate Master Study programme without additional requirements.
  • Graduates who have completed first level study programme from other study disciplines and have gathered 240 ECTS; however, they are required to fulfil study requirements essential for the continuation of study (30 ECTS): Introduction to Sociology, Introduction to Social Informatics, Statistics, Statistics II and Computer Data Analysis, Social Sciences Research Methods, Introduction to Informatics. Candidates can apply for recognition of the listed courses on the basis of their knowledge gained during former education.
  • Graduates who have completed first level study programme from whichever study discipline and have gathered 180 ECTS are required to pass the courses in the scope of 60 ECTS from the framework of the Programme for upgrading social sciences related knowledge prior to their enrolment to the second level of study programme at the Faculty of Social Sciences. The selection of exams to be passed will be made in agreement with the programme coordinator.
Selection criteria in the case of restricted enrolment
Criteria for the selection of applicants in the case of restricted enrolment in Master study programmes comprise:
  • Grade point average in previous studies accounts for 50% of the final grade.
  • Grade of oral selection exam in front of an expert committee from the discipline the candidate is applying for accounts for 50% of the final grade.

Higher education institution recognizes the knowledge, skills, abilities or competences obtained through formal, informal or empirical learning, which corresponds in content and complexity in part or completely with general or course-specific competences defined in individual study programmes as completed study obligation expressed in and evaluated with credit points.

In the framework of study programme, the knowledge obtained through formal, informal or empirical learning can be recognized as a part of completed study obligations. Certificates and other adequate documents or proofs are taken into consideration.
