Course Structure

  1. Probability \x96 Probability theory is used to analyze random phenomena, especially with regards to evolving random phenomena. Hence, the calculation of probability is a crucial element of actuarial mathematics.
  2. Life Insurance Mathematics \x96 Life insurance mathematics deals with insurance in relation to major life events and includes retirement, death, disability and marriage. This typically incorporates long-term business and significant financial risk.
  3. Non-Life Insurance Mathematics \x96 Non-life insurance mathematics deals with insurance covering damage or injury to things or persons, typically in relation to fire, natural disasters, theft and the like. It typically incorporates short-term business with significant catastrophe risk.

If you have completed a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree or are enrolled in the final semester of a Bachelor\xc2\x92s programme you are eligible to apply for the Master\xc2\x92s programme in Actuarial Mathematics.

Regardless of what university you are enrolled at, you can - if you meet the language requirements - apply on the basis of a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree that grants direct access or another relevant Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree.

If you hold one of the degrees listed below, you are considered to meet all admission requirements and have direct access to apply to the Master\xc2\x92s programme in Actuarial Mathematics. Learn about when and how to apply.

  • BSc in Actuarial Mathematics from the University of Copenhagen (reserved access*)
  • BSc in Actuarial Mathematics from another Danish or Nordic University

* If your Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree grants reserved access, you are guaranteed a place on the Master\xc2\x92s programme if you apply before the application deadline during the first application period after you complete your Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree.

If you have a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree other than those listed above, you must submit additional documentation along with your application so the University can evaluate whether or not you meet the admission requirements.Learn about when and how to apply.

Applicants with a Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in Mathematics-Economics or Mathematics from the University of Copenhagen or other Danish universities may be admitted, if they have passed the following:

  • courses in life-insurance mathematics (min. 7.5 ECTS credits)
  • courses in non-life insurance mathematics (min 7.5 ECTS credits)
  • courses in statistics based on measure theory (min. 15 ECTS credits)

Applicants with another Bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in Computer Science, Physics or Chemistry may be admitted if their programme includes:

  • courses in mathematical analysis incl. measure theory (min. 22.5 ECTS credits)
  • courses in linear algebra (min. 7.5 ECTS credits)
  • courses in life-insurance mathematics (min. 7.5 ECTS credits)
  • courses in non-life insurance mathematics (min 7.5 ECTS credits)
  • courses in statistics based on measure theory (min. 15 ECTS credits)

In addition, you may be admitted, if you after an individual assessment,
are deemed to possess educational/academic qualifications equivalent to the
requirements listed above.
