Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- Submission of all required admission materials, including:
- Completed graduate application for admission
- $30 nonrefundable application fee (unless you have previously applied to Grand Valley)
- Official copies of transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Transcripts must be sent from those institutions directly to the GVSU Admissions Office. NOTE: We do not require official transcripts from Grand Valley
- For those whose native language is NOT English, either the Official TOEFL or IELTS score report. Only original score reports will be accepted.
- Grade point average of 3.0 (B) cumulative for undergraduate coursework
- Graduate Admission statement, using our form, detailing academic preparation, background experiences, and professional, educational and career goals
- A recent resume submitted
- A minimum of 18 credit hours in social or behavioral science courses and have a broad liberal arts background

- Recommendations: Three recommendations received on this form in sealed envelopes, from professional individuals who can respond to the questions on the form. At least one academic reference is preferred in addition to individuals who have supervised your work or volunteer experience
