Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

In addition to meeting the respective eligibility requirements listed above, applicants to both the Advanced Standing and Full MSW Programs must submit all admission documents and requirements listed below before their application will be considered complete:

  1. Official Application to NKU Graduate Programs. Prospective students may apply online. Note: Submit this application to NKU designating your desire for the MSW program before submitting any other documentation.
  2. Official transcripts of undergraduate or graduate work from all institutions attended. Request transcripts from all institutions of higher education be sent to NKU. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institutions the applicant has attended. If the applicant has graduated or will be graduating with a BSW from NKU then no transcripts need be sent. Official transcripts should be sent to:
    Office of Graduate Programs, LA 302, Highland Heights KY 41099.
  3. A professional resume tailored to educational goal, including educational background, employment history, awards, and accomplishments. Do not submit a resume before you have submitted the NKU Graduate Programs Application (see step 1 above). Resume may be e-mailed to gradprog@nku.edu
  4. Supplemental MSW Application Follow the directions provided on the Supplemental Application. Do include the questions posed within the Supplemental Application for the letter of intent and situational essay. Do not submit the Supplemental Application before you have submitted the NKU Graduate Programs Application (see step 1 above).
    The MSW supplemental application will be emailed to candidates after the application to NKU for the MSW program has been submitted. This ensures the candidate has an "application file" to attach the supplemental documents to. Supplemental Application
  5. Three Recommendations. Three recommendations from professionals familiar with the applicant\'s academic performance, work experience, or potential for becoming a social worker. At least one recommendation must be academic (i.e., written by a professor or an instructor). We understand that for some applicants, contacting former professors is not feasible; in these situations, professional references, written by supervisors or managers who are familiar with your work, are also acceptable.
    The MSW recommendation form will be emailed to candidates after the application to NKU for the MSW program has been submitted. This ensures the candidate has an "application file" to attach the recommendations to. Recommendation Form
  6. Admission Interview. Once the applicant\xc2\x92s admission file is complete (this is the applicant\xc2\x92s responsibility), the program will review the file. If the applicant is selected for an interview, the program will contact the applicant via e-mail to schedule the interview. Following an interview with Social Work faculty, the admission committee will make arecommendation to the program whether to accept the applicant.
    *Admission into this program is selective and completing the above requirements does not guarantee an applicant a place in the program. Acceptance is contingent upon a holistic review of application materials, the interview process and a positive recommendation from the admission committee
