Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Admission Requirements
  • Completed baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with 3 courses (5 quarter credits or 3 semester credits each) in liberal arts content. Specifically one course in each of the areas: Humanities, Social Science, and Natural Science.
  • A grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better on a 4.0 scale in your last 90 quarter/60 semester credits is expected. Applicants with a GPA below the required minimum submit an explanatory statement with the application to be considered for an exception. Applicants with degrees from non-graded institutions will be required to submit official GRE scores in lieu of a GPA.
  • Prerequisite Course: A statistics course (college level) with a passing grade is required for enrollment. Students may apply if they have not completed a statistics course. However, the course must be completed prior to enrollment into the MSW program.
  • Criminal Background Check / Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) report: While a certified background check is not part of the application process, applicants who are offered admission to the Seattle University MSW Program will receive instructions to complete the certified background check online. Students with a criminal record should be aware that human service agencies often require a CORI report on students who apply to their agencies for field placements. A positive CORI may preclude the student from many potential field placements and will severely limit the field placements available to the student. The Seattle University MSW Program cannot guarantee field placements (a requirement for completion of the MSW degree and social work licensure) for students with a positive CORI. Prospective applicants with questions or concerns about these requirements should contact the Director of the MSW Program.

English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
