Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Instructions for applying to the Graduate School are in the "Admissions" section of the UM Graduate School website and include:
- Complete the online Graduate School Application
- The Graduate School will forward your application information to the School of Social Work.
- A bachelor\'s degree from an accredited college or university(Submit transcripts of all college course work taken beyond high school to the School of Social Work.)
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for all undergraduate work, based on a 4.00 scale.
- Three statements of recommendation which must include the UM Graduate School recommendation rating form and meet the following specifications.
- Recommendations must be completed and submitted by persons outside the applicant\'s extended family who have direct knowledge of the applicant\'s character and abilities.
- One reference must be academic.
- Please note that if the applicant waives the right to review the recommendation form and letter, they must be submitted by the recommender in a sealed envelope if not elected to be submitted electronically in order to maintain the agreed upon confidentiality.
- The recommendation forms and letters can be submitted in one of two ways:
- Method 1: the recommendation form on the Graduate School website
- Method 2: by entering your recommender names and email addresses into your online application, the recommender will automatically be sent a link. Once the link is accessed, both the recommendation form and the letter can be submitted electronically.
