Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better
  • an acceptable score on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The average score for students enrolled in the program is 1160 (combined quantitative and verbal) for those who took the GRE using the using the old scoring system, and 302 for those using the new scoring system. The average Department analytical writing score is 4.1 for both exams.
  • completed a minimum of 18 hours of undergraduate course work in the social sciences, including social theory; and demonstrated undergraduate competence in research methods and statistics.
