Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.75 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Obtaining your Master of Science degree requires you to apply to the Graduate School for admission. These application forms can be picked up from the Graduate School offices in the Ezra Gillis Building, or you may call (859) 257-4613 for the application. In addition, you can apply to the Graduate School online by visiting UKs Graduate School homepage.
Prerequisites:
- To obtain admission to the Graduate School you must have a minimum of a 2.75 undergraduate grade point average and you must take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and submit those scores to the Graduate School.
- For Learning Behavior Disorder (LBD) and Moderate & Severe Disabilities (MSD) areas of emphasis, EDS 516 or an approved equivalent is a required prerequisite. Candidates in the MSD emphassis must also have taken EDS 530 or an approved equivalent.

- For the area of Learning and Behavior Disorders (LBD), a prerequisite for admission includes holding teacher certification in LBD or equivalent prerequisites for each required course.
- Professional Portfolio Students must develop and maintain a professional portfolio throughout your graduate program. Your portfolio will be evaluated and assessed at three points during your program.
- Minimum Grade Point Average Students must maintain a 3.0 on all required coursework to successfully complete the program.
