Admission Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Program RequirementsFor consideration to the program all admissions materials must be received by the university. Applications will be reviewed based on availability in the program and the program\'s admissions committee will rank eligible candidates for a limited number of admissions. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements.
  • Completion of a Bachelors Degree with a minimum 3.0 grade point average in the prerequisite coursework
  • Successful completion of any undergraduate prerequisite courses
  • Ability to perform all essential functions specified by the program (you can find the Essential Functions document here)
  • Submission of all required admission materials, including:
  1. Completed graduate application for admission
  2. Personal written statement
  3. Professional vitae or resume
  4. Three letters of recommendation. Enter contact information for these individuals in the GVSU online application. GVSU will contact them electronically. A pdf version of the recommendation form is also available here.
  5. $30 nonrefundable application fee (unless you have previously applied to Grand Valley)
  6. Official copies of transcripts from all institutions of higher education previously attended. Transcripts must be sent from those institutions directly to the GVSU Admissions Office. NOTE: We do not require official transcripts from Grand Valley
  7. General GRE scores (verbal, quantitative, and writing)
  8. Test scores from the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), or IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) for applicants whose native language is not English (both international applicants and US citizens whose native language is not English.). Only original score reports will be accepted. Based on recommendations from ASHA and the Council for Clinical Certification, the minimum scores are:
  • TOEFL - passing score of 106, including at least 28 on the speaking section, with no section\xc2\x92s score less than 24.

English Proficiency: IELTS 7.5 or equivalent.
