Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Admission Requirements
  • Applicants must hold a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree in a discipline that will allow them to study the field of sustainability at an advanced level, with a GPA of 3.0 or equivalent at the undergraduate level.
  • The program is structured to accommodate both full-time and part-time students. It welcomes students from a diverse academic background, including recent graduates and those who are working and want advancement in their careers. Hofstra University is recognized for its commitment to extending equal opportunity to all qualified individuals. The University also recognizes that minorities are underrepresented in the field of sustainability and is therefore especially interested in recruiting such students.
  • For non-native speakers of English, a TOEFL may be required unless waived by Graduate Admission and/or the program director, after having received evidence of English-language proficiency.
  • Applications must submit a 1-2 page letter of intent detailing professional and academic goals.
  • All applicants must submit 3 letters of recommendation.
  • Official transcripts from previous institutions and three letters of recommendation must be submitted to Hofstra University, Office of Graduate Admission, 105 Memorial Hall, Hempstead New York.
