Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • Complete an appropriate undergraduate degree program (see pre-M.A.T. transcript evaluation for additional requirements for area of licensure).
  • Check with your content specialist for any additional courses required for licensure in your area. 
  • Complete the application for teacher education through the Teacher Education Office by October 1 (see the Teacher Education Application Fee). This includes passing the Praxis I exam and successfully completing the required criminal background check.
  • File an application for admission to the Graduate School by December 30.
  • Pass Praxis CORE exam before admission to the program.
  • Upload three letters of recommendation before the interview in February to the Graduate School.
  • Successfully complete the required criminal background check. Background check materials must be submitted by  the admission interview.
  • Provide scores on the Praxis II Content Area test for admission to the program; foreign language students must also provide scores for the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) for admission to the program.
  • Schedule and complete an admission screening interview with a portfolio in February.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
