Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

1. A completed Bachelor\'s degree in (North) America Studies or related area

We are looking for students with a Bachelor\'s degree in American Studies or those with a Bachelor\'s Degree in English Language & Culture who specialized in American Studies. Your degree should be the equivalent of a Dutch university Bachelor\'s degree.
If you specialized in English you can apply if you had at least 40 ECs in courses related to American Studies. If you have a different academic background, you will need to have achieved 60 ECs in courses related to American Studies.

2. A proficiency in English

In order to take part in this program, you need to have fluency in both written and spoken English. Non-native speakers of English* without a Dutch Bachelor\'s degree or VWO diploma need one of the following:
  • TOEFL score of >=600 (paper-based) or >=100 (internet-based)
  • an IELTS score of at least 7.0
  • Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), with a mark of B or higher
* Applicants are considered to be a native speaker of English if they are from Australia, Canada (with exception of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, UK, USA or South Africa. 

English Proficiency: IELTS 7 or equivalent.
