Course Structure
- To become professional studio artists and college level art instructors.
- To realize their intellectual and creative potential as it applies to their chosen fine art discipline.
- To gain awareness of, and situate their work in relation to contemporary art theory and practice.
- To investigate a broad range of historical and contemporary issues relevant to their work and to place their work in the context of the world at large.
- To become verbally fluent in the discussion of their own work and the work of other contemporary artists.
- To engage in course work, research, and experimentation that supports their studio practice.
- To become excellent and articulate writers.
- To receive feedback and guidance in rigorous individual and group critiques.

Admission Requirements
Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Admission Requirements:
1. Apply to the Graduate College and satisfy the minimum admissions requirements of the Graduate College. International applicants must satisfy the international admissions requirements.
2. Hold a B.A., B.F.A., or M.A. degree in visual art from a regionally accredited U.S. institution of higher learning or a degree from a non-U.S. institution of higher education that is judged equivalent to a U.S. B.A., B.F.A., or M.A. degree by the International Admissions Office.
3. Have and maintain at least a 3.00 grade point average on a 4.00 scale.
4. A portfolio of fifteen (15) digital images of a recent body of work. Submit your portfolio.
5. Have completed twelve credits of undergraduate art history prior to taking courses for graduate credit. Undergraduate coursework in modern and/or contemporary art history is highly desirable.
6. A statement of purpose.
7. Three letters or recommendation from professionals in the field.
8. An artist statement that directly addresses the portfolio submitted.
9. A resume that includes your educational background, exhibition record, awards, grants, reviews and any other pertinent information.
10. A $15 USD additional fee for the use of slideroom.com.
