The Japanese American Citizens League administers the nation's oldest and largest Asian American civil rights scholarship programme. JACL national scholarships provide awards from $2,000 to $10,000 to students of Japanese American heritage or to students who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to Japanese American community issues. The JACL emphasises academic achievement, community service, and the legacy of the Japanese American experience including the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II. Local JACL chapters also administer their own scholarship programmes.
