Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

The primary requirements are that candidates will need to have

  • (a) good understanding of language and language teaching and
  • (b) a first degree, which should preferably be in a relevant field, such as English Language and/or Literature, another foreign language, Linguistics, Communication, or Social Sciences. Some experience of teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language will be an advantage.
Each application is evaluated individually and candidates who would like to apply but lack some of these requirements should make contact with the Programme Convener before submitting their application. Successful applicants will also need to meet the English language entry requirements for Masters programmes, currently IELTS 6.5 overall with no less than 6 in each section or equivalent. Applicants whose IELTS scores are slightly below these levels may be able eligible for a conditional offer dependent on their successfully completing a Pre-sessional English course.

English Proficiency: IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.
