Admission Requirements

Each applicant must provide the following materials:

1. Completed online applicationform

2. Certified copies of all undergraduate transcripts and any graduate transcripts

3. Statement of intent and professional goals for entering the field

4. Résumé

5. Three letters of reference, minimum TWO from faculty members from prior institutions, as well as individuals who have firsthand knowledge of the applicant’s academic or professional capabilities

6. Official score on Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators or SAT, ACT and VCLA equivalent (1100 overall) for the MAT I and AELC.

7. TOEFL score, if required by Mason policies

8. Portfolio

  • 15 to 20 images (demonstrating strong drawing and painting skills from observation) and also reflects artistic breadth and depth of the applicant’s art.
  • Show images in Power Point format on a Mac-compatible CD.
  • Written image sheet with the corresponding number, title, date, medium, and size of each work.
  • Incomplete portfolios will not be considered.
  • Applicants’ portfolio items are considered part of the application for admission and, thus, cannot be returned. Please do not send original materials.
