Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

You need the following GPA score:

Required score: 2.6

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2.6 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

Qualified applicants must hold a B.S. or B.A. degree, usually with a major in Biology, Chemistry, or in approved cases, Physics or Mathematics, with a GPA of at least 2.6 from an accredited college or university. Competitive applicants should have a strong undergraduate background in the basic biological, chemical, and physical sciences. Evaluation for admission is based on academic achievement evidenced by an official transcript. Also required are 3 letters of reference from three faculty involved in the applicant\'s educational experience, and a signed personal statement describing their reasons for applying. GREs are optional but recommended. Students are admitted by approval of the Graduate Committee. Applications should be completed by June 1st.

International students must satisfy English Proficiency Requirements of the Wayne State University Graduate School. All applicants are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English to the Office of Graduate Admissions. A minimum score of 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based) or 79 (Internet based) is required on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), 6.5 is required on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or 85 is required on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).
