Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Admission Requirements
To apply for this program, please complete the George Mason University Admissions Application.While each applicant\'s qualifications are reviewed as a whole, the following are provided: Applicants to the program must have a bachelor\'s degree in biology or its equivalent. Additionally, all MS concentrations require a GPA of 3.00 in biology coursework or in the last 60 credits of undergraduate study. Students must also submit three letters of recommendation and scores on the GRE general exam. Exam scores should be in the 45th percentile or above. Admission is contingent on acceptance by a faculty research advisor.
Students who choose the Microbiology and Infectious Disease Concentration (MID) must have a lecture and lab course in microbiology and a lecture course in biochemistry.
