Admission Requirements
- Application to graduate study, including the Application for Virginia in-state tuition
- Personal statement submitted with the online application
- $65 application fee
- Three reference letters should be submitted through the online application
- Transcripts from each institution you attended are required to be submitted
- A portfolio of promising fiction or poetry, possibly with drama (as a minimum, approximately eight to 10 poems, or 20 or more pages of fiction or some combination of these; in all cases, applicants should submit only their strongest creative writing samples) to be submitted directly to the M.F.A. program
- Three recommendations from persons who are qualified to give information concerning the applicants probable success in graduate school, especially in a creative writing program
- A scholastic record that is indicative of the applicants ability to pursue a graduate degree successfully
- A baccalaureate degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution
