This specialised professional qualification is designed to authorise the practice of neurology. The training is full-time and lasts at least five years. You have the option of spending up to one year in a research environment outside clinical training, or to spread your research time over the course of your clinical for a total of 2 semesters. More info Study programme brochure Objectives The speciality training in neurology aims to: Learn the pathological aspects of the entire nervous system and of neuromuscular transmission and musculature. Evaluate and treat autonomously all the main anomalies, diseases or dysfunctions of the nervous system and the musculature. Integrate their knowledge into a multidisciplinary approach by becoming familiar with other medical disciplines and collaborating with other health professionals. Interpret correctly scientific publications and reports in his/her field of specialisation. Carry out research or development projects independently and thereby generate new knowledge, skills and attitudes. Learning outcomes Acquire the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for independent practice under one’s own responsibility or in a specialised hospital department in all fields of neurology. Acquire knowledge of the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the peripheral nervous system, including the musculature, and of the central nervous system and afferent and efferent blood vessels, as well as the pathology of the nervous system. Acquire knowledge of the legislative, regulatory and ethical framework surrounding the practice of neurology in Luxembourg. Acquire the ability to competently assess the main neurological syndromes, complications and emergencies and to initiate or undertake the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Acquire the ability to independently initiate specific discussions to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes of others in the scientific or professional field. (semester 1,10,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) Format: Full-time programme Specific information for this programme Requirements Diploma The applicant must have a basic medical qualification obtained in a Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Area or the Swiss Confederation referred to in Annex 5.1.1. of Directive 2005/36/EC or a basic medical qualification obtained in a third country recognised in accordance with the provisions of the Act of 28 October 2016 on the recognition of professional qualifications, meeting, in particular, the criteria laid down in Article 24 of this Act. Candidates who are nationals of third countries and hold a second-cycle university degree in medicine obtained in a third country must hold a qualification recognized in accordance with the Law of 28 October 2016 relating to the recognition of professional qualifications, as amended, and must be entered in the register of training qualifications, higher education section. The qualification must in particular meet the criteria set out in Article 24 and comply with the procedures specified in Articles 66 to 68 of that law.
