Program Overview
If you are interested in technology but would also like to work with people professionally, Engineering Pedagogics is the right program for you. The Engineering Pedagogics degree program is all about dealing with vocational education and the vocational education system while studying an engineering subject and, to a lesser extent, a second teaching subject. This provides you with an attractive and contemporary combination of academic subjects. You can not only apply the technical knowledge you acquire during your studies yourself, but also teach it to others. Most students complete a master's degree after their bachelor's degree and go on to become teachers at vocational schools. However, there are also opportunities in other areas.
In the vocational education part, which makes up a quarter of your bachelor's degree, you will learn the basics of vocational education and didactics through lectures and seminars. You will also complete an internship in the field of vocational education - at a school or another suitable learning location.
At KIT, you have three vocational specializations to choose from: civil engineering, electrical engineering and metal engineering. Essentially, this part of your bachelor's degree consists of courses from the Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology or Mechanical Engineering degree programs. You determine your professional specialization right at the beginning of your studies. You will also write your bachelor's thesis at the end of your studies at the department assigned to your major subject.
During your studies, you have various subjects, which consist of one or more modules. A module deals with a specific topic and consists of one or more courses. In the module handbook for your degree program, you will find a description of the modules and their subject assignment as well as a study plan. This gives you an orientation as to which courses you should attend in which semester in order to complete your studies within the standard period of study. It takes into account a balanced distribution of courses over the individual semesters. It also ensures that you are first taught the important basics before moving on to more advanced topics. Career Opportunities
The bachelor's degree program in Engineering Pedagogics offers an engineering program in the respective subjects of electrical engineering, metal technology or construction technology, which also prepares students for further qualification as a teacher at vocational schools.
Students who also complete the master's degree program in Engineering Pedagogics qualify for the preparatory service for teaching at vocational schools, vocational colleges, master schools or technical high schools. The recruitment opportunities for industrial-technical teachers are excellent, as there is currently and in the medium term a shortage of teachers in this area. Other educational institutions as well as industrial companies, associations and service providers also value the interdisciplinary skills acquired in Engineering Pedagogics - be it in further education, human resources, consulting, sales or public relations.
Program Curriculum

Your main vocational subject has a scope of 98 credit points (ECTS) and can be chosen from:
• metal technology
• electrical engineering or
• civil engineering
In the first semesters, you will study basic engineering subjects such as mathematics, mechanics, data transmission or structural engineering. In advanced studies, you can choose a specialization for your main subject or select modules from a compulsory elective block in civil engineering. Your specific study plan and your compulsory study modules depend on the chosen combination of vocational specialization (main subject) and second compulsory subject (compulsory elective subject).
You can choose your compulsory elective subject (second teaching subject) worth 20 credit points (ECTS) from the following subjects:
• mathematics
• physics
• physical education
• economics and business administration or
• history with social studies
If you choose metal technology as your main subject, you can also choose a further specialization in this subject area as a compulsory elective subject.
In the vocational education part, you will earn 40 credit points (ECTS) by completing the following modules:
• organization and fields of action in vocational education
• didactics and methodology
• planning of vocational education
• practice of vocational teaching and learning
• vocational pedagogical basics of engineering pedagogy
The bachelor's thesis module, the vocational education internship and the internship are also compulsory.
Admission Requirements
For the bachelor's degree program in Engineering Pedagogics, you need sufficient knowledge of the German language, which corresponds to at least level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Important: you must provide proof of the required language skills regardless of your citizenship and by the end of the enrollment period at the latest, but preferably at the time of application.

Financial Aid & Scholarships
No tuition fees at KIT (German public university). Semester contribution of approx. €235 covers public transport and student services. Funding available via DAAD, Deutschlandstipendium, Baden-Württemberg Stipendium, and KIT internal scholarships.
