Program Overview
The master's degree program in Engineering Pedagogics at KIT builds on the bachelor's degree program of the same name. You keep your technical major and your minor subject (second teaching subject) and build on the vocational education of the bachelor's degree program. The standard period of study is 4 semesters and you earn 120 ECTS credits. Your master's degree in Engineering Pedagogics qualifies you for preparatory service for the higher teaching profession at vocational schools at vocational schools in Baden-Württemberg.
In the master's in Engineering Pedagogic, you will focus on vocational education and your second teaching subject. In your main technical subject of metal technology, electrical engineering and information technology or civil engineering, you will only complete a few courses, but you can choose a specialization. You can find more information in the module handbook. You will also complete a vocational education internship or school internship and an industrial internship.
If your main subject is metal technology, you can choose a further specialization as a second subject.
The degree program includes two mandatory internships of six weeks each, a school internship / vocational education internship and a company internship. In total, you will complete twelve weeks of internship, preferably during the semester break. You can find more information in the module handbook. It is recommended that you divide the school internship into two phases of 3 weeks each.
Career Opportunities
Your master's degree in Engineering Pedagogics qualifies you for the preparatory service for the higher teaching profession at vocational schools (Referendariat) at vocational schools in Baden-Württemberg. The preparatory service lasts 18 months and concludes with a state examination (2nd state examination). Before entering the preparatory service, you must provide evidence of a longer professional internship. Vocational training or employment prior to your studies can be taken into account. After the state examination, there are very good employment opportunities for teachers, especially in metal and electrical engineering, both at vocational schools and at vocational colleges, master schools and technical high schools.
In addition to teaching, there are a wide range of opportunities for you in the field of in-company training and further education and in extracurricular educational institutions. You can also work in specialist journalism or public relations as well as in sales of technical products and systems.

Admission Requirements
The requirements for admission to the master's degree program in Engineering Pedagogics are based on the current admission regulations:
• bachelor's degreea bachelor's degree (or at least an equivalent degree) in Engineering Pedagogics or a degree program with essentially the same content, in particular also purely engineering degree programs that correspond to the chosen professional specialization of the master's degree program in Engineering Pedagogics, at a university, university of applied sciences or university of cooperative education or at a foreign university with a standard period of study of at least three years and a minimum number of 180 credit points (ECTS)
• minimum knowledge and minimum achievements in the following areaseducational sciences, in particular vocational education, didactics, work analysis, planning of vocational education, school and/or vocational education practice amounting to at least 23 credit pointscivil engineering, electrical engineering or metal engineering (or corresponding engineering science) amounting to 98 credit pointsmetal technology: materials science to the extent of 9 CP, technical mechanics to the extent of 11 CP, machine design to the extent of 7 CP, technical thermodynamics and heat transfer to the extent of 6 CP, fluid mechanics to the extent of 7 CP, production engineering to the extent of 3 CPcivil engineering: minimum achievements from one of the three areas of finishing engineering, structural engineering or civil engineering amounting to 6 CPsecond subject or specialization in metal technology worth 10 credit pointssport: proof of successful completion of the sports entrance examination, basic training science worth 3 CP, introduction to sports science worth 3 CP, scientific work worth 2 CP Important: if minimum achievements amounting to a maximum of 33 credit points are missing, admission can be granted on condition that these achievements are made up before registering for the master's thesis.
