Career opportunities The Master in Secondary Education prepares students for a teaching career in secondary schools in Luxembourg. Students can also continue their studies at PhD level and enrol in one of the University’s doctoral schools. More info Download the flyer Objectives Students deepen their knowledge in German literature and linguistics and develop the pedagogical skills needed to teach in classroom settings. Across the programme relevant competencies and skills are acquired throughout a variety of courses and workshops. The subject-specific courses provide students with in-depth knowledge in German literature and linguistic as well as in Medieval Studies.Parallel to these courses, courses in didactics of German language and literature provide students with subject-specific techniques of knowledge building. The general professional competencies courses cover topics from the field of educational science, educational psychology and general didactics with a special focus on multilingualism and heterogeneity. Students learn to teach with confidence in a classroom setting and to embrace a multicultural and multilingual teaching environment. Learning outcomes At the end of the programme, students are able to freely apply methods and theories of literary studies as well as linguistics. adapt their deep knowledge of the subject of German Studies for the needs of the classroom. develop and apply teaching strategies to engage and motivate students. use didactic strategies and techniques to plan, organise and structure lessons in an effective way. demonstrate their competencies in managing multilingualism and multiculturalism effectively in the classroom. communicate accurately and effectively with students, parents and colleagues. Program Curriculum
Programme The German Studies track deepens students’ subject-specific knowledge in literature, linguistics and language history. It provides a subject-didactic orientation and explores the multi-layered issues and perspectives of teaching German in Luxembourg. Through the integration of general pedagogical knowledge, students are ideally equipped to cope with Luxembourg’s secondary education system. Admissions Academic Contents Semester 1 Semester 1 Semester 2 Semester 3 Semester 4 Course offer for Langue et littérature allemande, Semestre 1 (2026-2027 Winter) Einführung in die Text- und Diskursanalyse ECTS credits: 5 Course code: F3_SECEDUC-206 Course title: Einführung in die Text- und Diskursanalyse Number of ECTS: 5 Course code: F3_SECEDUC-206 Module(s): Modul: Linguistik Language: DE Mandatory: No Wiederholung formale Grammatik (Syntax), Funktionale Grammatik, kritische Analyse von Texten und Diskursen Das Seminar gibt eine Einführung in die funktionale Grammatik, die zur Text- und Diskursanalyse verwendet wird. Die funktionale Grammatik basiert auf der formalen Grammatik und beschreibt, welche Funktionen einzelne sprachliche Elemente im Kontext erfüllen und welche Bedeutungen damit in Texten und Diskursen realisiert werden.Im Zuge dessen wird auch die formale Grammatik, insbesondere die syntaktische Analyse von Sätzen, wiederholt.Im zweiten Teil des Kurses werden textwissenschaftliche Grundlagen zur Klassifizierung von Texten sowie die Methode der funktionalen Text- und Diskursanalyse vermittelt, in die auch die Analyse von Bildelementen integriert werden kann. Admission Requirements

(semester 1,2,3,4) Format: Full-time programme (Part-time student status allowed) Specific information for this programme Requirements Bachelor degree or equivalent (180 ECTS) in German studies (Germanistik) Language requirements: German C1 level (CEFR), French B1 level (CEFR), English B1 level (CEFR) The required language skills can be demonstrated by a formal test, a diploma required for the enrolment at the University of Luxembourg (cf. Abitur / Baccalauréat) and / or a personal interview with the study programme director. More information on proof of language skills In addition to the documents required for the enrolment at the University of Luxembourg, students need to submit the following documents: – a CV – a letter of motivation These documents should clearly address the following points: – previous academic background in line with the Master in Secondary Education and the chosen disciplinary track– expectations of the study programme– personal (professional, academic…) objectives – the reason for choosing this particular study programme. Selection procedure & criteria Selection is based on the application documents. Admission is limited to 35 students for each track.A personal interview with the respective study programme directors may be requested.
