Program Overview
The course aims to prepare you as an eventual graduate with the skills to handle data and scientific writing, and to provide an opportunity for specialisation in one of five areas; Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmacoeconomics, Industrial Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Regulatory Sciences, and Pharmacy Administration and Marketing. In your final year, you will be able to demonstrate your knowledge through a placement unit and by carrying out a dissertation with a topic of your choice. PHR5004 * Pharmacoeconomics 5 ECTS PHR5005 * Industrial Pharmacy 5 ECTS PHR5010 * Pharmaceutical Regulatory Sciences 5 ECTS PHR5011 * Pharmacovigilance 5 ECTS PHR5030 * Qualified Person Requirements: Pharmacognosy 5 ECTS PHR5031 * Qualified Person Requirements: Pharmaceutical Technology 5 ECTS PHR5032 * Qualified Person Requirements: Pharmaceutical Chemistry 5 ECTS PHR5033 * Qualified Person Requirements: Applied Physiology and Biochemistry 5 ECTS * These study-units start in Semester 2 of academic year 2025-26 and continue in Semester 1 of academic year 2026-27. Year 2 Semester 2 Compulsory Units (All students must register for this/these unit/s) PHR5003 ** Dissertation 30 ECTS PHR5013 *** Specialisation in Pharmaceutical Regulatory Sciences 20 ECTS PHR5021 *** Placement 5 ECTS Elective Units (Elective units are offered subject to availability, a minimum number of student registrations and time-table constraints) Students are required to choose ONE Elective Study-Unit from the following: PHR5016 *** Medical Cannabis Science 5 ECTS PHR5018 *** Pharmacoeconomics and Pharmaceutical Outcomes 5 ECTS ** Work on the dissertation is expected to start in Semester 2 of academic year 2025-26 and continues up to the end of the third year. *** These study-units start in Semester 2 of academic year 2026-27 and continue in Semester 1 of academic year 2027-28. This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Science in Pharmacy under the auspices of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must be in possession of: Refer to the list of country-specific qualifications a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy with at least Second Class Honours or the degree of Master of Pharmacy or the degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Technology with at least Second Class Honours or a Bachelor degree with at least Second Class Honours in any other area of study which the Board deems to be relevant, or the degree of Doctor of Medicine and Surgery obtained at least two years prior to registration in the Course, or the degree of Bachelor of Dental Surgery or the degree of Master of Dental Surgery awarded from July 2018 onwards or a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy or in any other area which the Board deems to be relevant, obtained with Third Class Honours, if they are also in possession of other qualifications, including relevant experience, obtained following the first cycle degree.
