Admission Requirements

Academic Requirements

For students with an undergraduate degree from a University outside Canada, the following is required for admission to the MBET program:
  • Minimum equivalent qualifications and overall academic standing as that above (Admissions for Canadian Students) \xc2\x96 applicants should refer to the University\xc2\x92s Admission Guide for International Applicants to determine eligibility.
  • Three references and their contact information (one reference must be academic and one must be professional). These referees will automatically receive an email from the Graduate Studies Office with instructions to complete a reference score sheet and return it to the Waterloo Graduate Studies Office.
  • English Language Proficiency certification (unless English Language Proficiency is exempt).
  • A minimum of one year full time work experience obtained either through co-operative work terms as part of an undergraduate academic program or through post-graduate work experience.
After completing the online application you will receive an email from the Waterloo Graduate Studies Office with instructions on how to login to Quest (the academic web portal used by University of Waterloo students) so that you may upload the remaining supplementary documentation, which includes:
  • A letter of intent (Supplemental Information Form) stating (1) why you would like to enter the MBET program; and (2) outlining previous work, business, or entrepreneurial experiences.
  • A current copy of your resume.
  • English Language test results (Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), etc), if applicable.
  • Proof of Immigration status.
  • All academic transcript(s).
  • Only qualified applicants will be invited to an interview (in-person or telephone).
English language proficiency exemptionsYou are exempt from submitting an English language proficiency (ELP) examination score if any one of the following conditions is true:
  • You have completed 3 or more years of post-secondary education or completed a graduate degree at a Canadian institution or university
  • You have completed 3 or more years of post-secondary education or completed a graduate degree at a university at which English was the primary language of instruction, as indicated on our ELP exemption list
  • You have been employed for at least 3 years in a position in which English was the language of business in a country listed as \xc2\x93all exempt\xc2\x94 on our ELP exemption list
