Required score: 3

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 3 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).

  • An undergraduate degree in statistics or mathematics is needed for admission. If an applicant\'s undergraduate major is not in statistics or mathematics, then the following courses are required: Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Linear Algebra, and at least one course in statistics.
  • A minimum combined score of 1000 on the quantitative and verbal sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The Department may consider waiving the GRE requirement if applicants have an earned graduate degree from an accredited US institution.
  • A minimum ‘B’ average (3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale) in upper level (undergraduate) work, and a 3.0 or higher (on a 4-point scale) GPA in mathematics and statistics courses.
  • For foreign applicants only. A minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) (or a minimum score of 80 on iBT, or 213 on computer-based version), or a minimum of 6.5 overall on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
  • Approval by the Graduate Committee of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
