Program Curriculum

Course Structure

  1. 4 core courses to provide students coming from diverse backgrounds with a coherent learning environment to tackle issues in cybersecurity.
  2. Cybersecurity Policy, Management and IT Ethics
  3. Applied Cryptography
  4. Computer and Network Security
  5. Security Risk Analysis for Corporations and Organizations
  6. 4 elective courses covering engineering and computer science topics in addition to a variety of cybersecurity electives, providing the students with a solid base and a depth of knowledge to fully understand different aspects of cybersecurity. Additionally there will be the opportunity to take an elective focusing on entrepreneurship.
  7. 2 semesters of graduate research seminars aimed at expanding students\x92 horizons by offering a broad range of topics, through talks by invited experts and presentations from those working in industry, research institutes, academia, and government institutions and organizations.
  8. 1 course on leadership and innovation aimed at providing the students with the skill-sets required to become leaders in this rapidly evolving field.
  9. A 9-credit research thesis or 6-credit industrial project.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a bachelor\xc2\x92s degree from a recognized institution in any of the following areas: computer science, computer engineering, electronic engineering, electrical engineering, information systems or other related computer science and engineering programs. Applicants from related disciplines such as other areas of engineering, mathematics and statistics are also eligible to apply. Applicants from different disciplines, but with professional experience in cybersecurity, are also welcome to apply. Applicants must have an excellent undergraduate academic record and demonstrate strong evidence that they possess the qualities to become successful engineers, scientists, researchers, and innovators.

Applicants are required to take the IELTS or TOEFL exam in order to demonstrate their proficiency in English. Applicants who are fluent in English may be exempt from this requirement.

While the GRE is not required for admission to the BBS graduate program, a strong GRE score will help strengthen the applicant\xc2\x92s admission material, particularly when applying for the Ph.D. program.
All applications are reviewed by the HBKU-BBS Masters/Ph.D. Graduate Advisory Committee (GAC), who will make the final decision regarding admission.

  • Academic transcripts
Applicants should have original academic transcripts mailed directly to HBKU from the issuing institution. In addition, electronic copies should be submitted as part of the online application process to expedite the admissions process.Final transcripts are required for all previous university studies. For those who have not completed their current studies transcripts must include results from the last completed semester of coursework. Transcripts in languages other than English or Arabic must be accompanied with an official translation.
  • Standardized test results
Official copies of standardized test results (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE) must be sent directly to HBKU. Please refer to the institutional codes below:GRE: 7551TOEFL: 4981IELTS: No code required. Students should ask the IELTS center where they tested to send the IELTS TRF to Hamad bin Khalifa University, Qatar.Applicants should also submit copies of their test scores with their online application to expedite the admissions process.
  • Letters of recommendation
Applicants should submit at least two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from an academic referee. Letters which are not directly written for this program or which are incomplete will not be accepted.
  • Personal statement of interest
Applicants should submit a personal statement that explains why the candidate is applying to the BBS graduate program and how their studies will contribute to the achievement of their personal objectives including information about the applicants\xc2\x92 research interests and achievements. (500 word limit)
  • Resume/curriculum vitae
Applicants should submit a copy of their current resume or curriculum vitae with the online application.
  • Identification document
Applicants should submit an electronic copy of their passport (or national ID for Qatar residents) as part of the online application.
