Academic Requirements
You need the following GPA score:
Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to 2 on a US 4.0 grading scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on a 4.0 scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated using the grades that you received in each course, and is determined by the points assigned to each grade (e.g. for the US grading scale from A-F).
Freshman
Admission Eligibility
A student is considered a freshman at EKU, when he or she has:- no previous college coursework, or
- completed college coursework prior to high school graduation, or
- earned 23 hours or fewer college credits since high school graduation.
- 2.5 grade point average (GPA), or
- 20 composite ACT or 950 SAT math and verbal combined score.
How to Apply

- Submit payment for the $35 admissions processing fee.
- Provide an official high school transcript showing a minimum of six semesters of coursework at the time of admission and a final transcript post-graduation. Students who have earned 23 hours or fewer of college credit since graduating high school must also provide an official college transcript.
- Send official ACT or SAT scores and transcripts to the Office of Admissions.
Transfer Students
A transfer student at EKU:
- has earned 23 or fewer hours of college work since high school graduation*, or
- has earned or is in progress with 24 or more semester hours at another institution.
To apply as a transfer:
- Complete the EKU online application - OR - Download and mail the application (PDF format).
- Submit payment for the $35 admissions processing fee.
- Provide official college transcripts for each institution attended reflecting all coursework attempted or earned. Only credits from regionally accredited institutions will be accepted.
- *Students who have earned 23 hours or fewer of college credits after high school graduation must also provide a final high school transcript along with ACT or SAT scores and meet the requirements for incoming freshmen.
International
Steps when applying:
- Submit an online application for the term (Fall or Spring) of the term you would like to begin. Students must indicate the major they wish to pursue in order for an I-20 to be issued.
- Pay the required $35.00 USD application processing fee. (This fee is waived for students applying for conditional admission through the ELS Intensive English Langauge program.)
- Submit complete secondary school records reflecting a cumulative grade of 75% (2.5 GPA equivalent) or higher. Secondary school records are high school transcripts or mark sheets showing all classes and grades completed and date of graduation.
- Submit an official copy of High School Diploma or Graduation Certificate
- Provide a declaration of finances showing an account balance of no less than $29,534 USD in the form of a bank statement with a letter of authorization from the account holder.
- Notes: The statement for students seeking a Aviation \xc2\x96 Professional Flight degree must reflect $94,417 USD to cover the additional $65,000 USD cost of flight instruction. These documents must be no less than one year old from the date classes are set to begin. If a student is sponsored by home government or another entity, please include a letter indicating the awarding of such scholarship.
- Demonstrated English language proficiency. Before being accepted for admission to the university international students must demonstrate their English language proficiency. For direct admission students my demonstrate proficiency by one of the following means:
- TOEFL score of 500 (paper based), 173 (computer based), or 61 (internet based) with no band score below a 12. Beginning with the Fall 2016 term: 530 (paper based), 195 (computer based), or 71 (internet based) with no band score below a 16.
- IELTS scores of 6.0 overall with 5.0 or above in EVERY subject/skill category.
- Japanese students may submit the EIKEN test with a passing score of Pre-1.
- Students who submit ACT or SAT scores with Reading and English sections will have their scores reviewed to determine admissibility.
- Students graduating from a high school in the United States.
English Proficiency: IELTS 6 or equivalent.
