The NIH Fogarty International Centre administers the HIV Research Training Programme, supporting training for researchers from sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Americas in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care. Training grants are awarded to US institutions which then support international scholars to receive training at both their home institution and the US partner. Research areas include antiretroviral treatment adherence, HIV vaccine immunology, prevention of mother to child transmission, and HIV co-infections. The programme has trained over 1,000 HIV researchers from 30 countries.
