Program Overview
Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-time option. Such requests will be considered by the Board of the Faculty. The Information Systems Degree programme (previously known as the Computing and Business Degree) provides you with the ideal skill-set if you wish to orientate your IT knowledge towards understanding and supporting business structures and processes. It should be stressed that this is not a business or management degree. Neither is it simply a collage of some ICT and some business topics, and shares nothing in common with any previous, possibly similar-sounding, degree programmes. This Degree programme is a computing degree first and foremost, witnessed by the fact that a majority of the core units of the course are concerned with the development of software, including programming in various languages, databases, web and mobile application development, and other related areas, such as user interface design, etc. If you take the Information Systems stream, this becomes a course focused purely on Information Systems, providing in-depth knowledge of how to design, implement and manage IT solutions that support organisational needs and strategy. If you take one of the other streams, then it allows you to orientate and hone your accrued scientific knowledge towards one of three possible traditionally commercial non-ICT areas: Computing for Business, Computing for Finance, Computing for Marketing.By introducing you to aspects of Business, Marketing and Finance, you are more likely to integrate better and quicker into business, marketing and finance projects after graduation. Applicants wishing to join the part-time mode must submit their application as full-time, and then include a note in the comments box of the application form, denoting their preference to be considered for the part-ti
Career Opportunities
As a graduate from this degree programme, you can find employment in any local or international business organisations that either wish to adopt new, or maintain existing, supporting IT infrastructures in business (e.g. management, finance and marketing). The level of employment will vary from developer to team and project management, and after due experience, even to more strategic positions. You will also be able to participate in, and/or instigate, start-up software development companies. You may also pursue specialisation at Masters level.
