More info Download the flyer Objectives The Master in European Contemporary History teaches historical approaches to contemporary European issues. The programme provides training on:• how to understand European history and culture(s) beyond national frameworks• how to develop a long-term perspective across periods• how to critically assess global connections• how to analyze and present historical findings using digital technologies. Students either specialise in “European history in the long term“ or in “Social and political history of contemporary Europe“. Learning Outcomes At the end of the programme, students are able to: • demonstrate knowledge and critical understanding of history;• compose a historiographical review;• analyse the primary and secondary sources pertaining to the perception of events;• critically engage with teleological views of progress and historical change;• construct and present a coherent historical argument;• critically analyze sources and assessment work using theory to good effect; • address a research question and propose a relevant and informed action plan;• organise, structure and present ideas and work in a clear, logical and coherent manner;• employ discipline-specific terminology and language;• collaborate in a humanities research teams;• understand key concepts and practices of digital history;• understand team-oriented project-based humanities work. Program Curriculum
Programme The curriculum covers a full-time two-years programme (120 ECTS) and has 8 modules covering different topics according to the chosen specialisation track. The final semester is dedicated to the completion of the Master thesis. Classes are taught in French and English. Students will critically reflect on these developments and learn how to benefit from them.This course combines theoretical approaches with hands-on sessions. Students will be introduced to discussions on how digitisation challenges concepts such as source criticism, transparency and authenticity. They will learn to work with tools such as Zotero and Tropy for information management and become aware of how the politics of digitisation of cultural heritage institutions shape the data available to us.
